桃县 Youth Commission

The 桃县 Commissioners have established a Youth Commission as part of the Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students (GCAPS). The program is designed to educate youth about local government, engage youth in civic affairs and provide an opportunity for youth to affect change in their community. Youth will get behind-the-scenes tours of 桃县 政府 departments, interact with government leaders and receive community leadership training designed to foster the next generation of leaders for 桃县.

There is no cost to participate in this program. Interested candidates must complete an application and eligibility will be verified. Class size will be limited to four participants in the initial cycle.

Please note: Students selected for this program will represent a cross-section of 桃县. Candidates will be selected by an independent selection committee based on eligibility and answers provided on the application; therefore, a submitted application does not guarantee your participation in the Peach Youth Commission. All selected candidates will be notified.

To be considered for the program, youth must:

  • 住在桃县
  • Attend a school in 桃县 (桃县 公立学校, private or home school)
  • Be a sophomore, junior, or senior during the academic year
  • Submit a completed application

Students who participate in this program will:

  • Interact with 桃县 政府 leaders
  • Speak on behalf of 桃县 youth
  • Help local government better understand the issues facing Peach youth
  • Serve as youth ambassadors for the county
  • Plan community events and participate in volunteer projects

GCAPS was developed to address the need for increased civic involvement and awareness among the state's youth and engage them to become the next generation of civic leaders. The program is dedicated to educating young citizens about the opportunities in the public sector. GCAPS provides civic education by exposing youth to the role of the local government and by introducing them to the leaders who make the local government work.

Students in the Youth Commission get to learn first-hand the roles and services that 桃县 政府 provides. Throughout the course of the year, students will take part in team-building exercises, attend Board of Commissioners meetings, tour county facilities, visit the State Capitol and interact with local and state leaders.
